As of 10 October 2010 (10-10-’10) the former Netherlands Antilles ceased to exist. Curacao and Saint Maarten became autonomous countries within the Kingdom of The Netherlands, while Bonaire, Saba and Saint Eustatius (Statia) became a (Caribbean) part of the country The Netherlands. All the islands of the Dutch Caribbean remain to have a strong bond with The Netherlands in Europe, in legal as well in other perspectives.
